About the opportunity 

Provides essential technical professional support to researchers and students using the AMME workshop and Laboratory facilities in accordance with established procedures/standards, as well as field activities carried out by the work group. Carries out daily workshop tasks, provides technical advice and electronic maintenance and development of laboratory equipment.

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the position requires:

• Routine supervision and general direction for students where required
• Using the workshop equipment, machines and fabricates parts or apparatus to support teaching and research
• Prepares the laboratory for student practicals, including preparing and carrying out experiments related to the research work being undertaken by the work area
• Collects and records qualitative data in preparation for analysis by research staff.

• Fitting & Machining qualification and experience would be highly regarded, along with an electronics background being desirable.
• Experience in CNC machining / general machining and welding experience.
• Has completed relevant training and is certified to work in a laboratory, with a willingness to undertake further studies to better develop their skills in laboratory techniques/methods.
• Sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory and workshop environments including experience in working with hazardous substances with well-rounded experience in implementing safety procedures relevant to the laboratory.
