About the role:

We are currently seeking a Health Safety and Training Manager at our Wambo Mine. Our Wambo mine complex is a combined open-cut and underground mine located 30kms west of Singleton that produce metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets.

Reporting to the General Manager, this position is responsible for the development, leadership and application of occupational health, safety and training policy across Wambo Mine. Promoting and developing continuous improvement initiatives alongside the management of a dynamic team will be a key focus for the role.

Duties will include:

  • Leading a culture that promotes safety as a way of life
  • Ensuring the elements of the Peabody Australia Safety & Health strategic plan and annual improvement plan are implemented
  • The successful delivery and monitoring of safety and health strategies
  • Ensuring overall compliance with statutory obligations and corporate OH&S policies and liaison with government departments/external organisations as required
  • The championing and development of safe work behaviours and practices across the sites and implementation of programs to successfully facilitate this
  • The development and implementation of safe risk management methodologies
  • Managing successful risk assessments and safety audit outcomes
  • The overall management of successful accident and incident investigations and initiating and driving changes in procedures and equipment as required
  • Overseeing the management of Worker’s Compensation and Return to Work practices
  • Ensure Training Records are appropriately managed and up to date

The lifestyle:

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday dayshift roster allowing for a residential lifestyle.

About you:

We are seeking a dynamic leader with proven experience in the following areas;

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Health, Safety & Training professional in the Coal Mining industry
  • Ability to lead and manage a team to achieve business goals and outputs
  • Thorough understanding of strategic risk management principles
  • Extensive experience in safety and health systems, auditing, incident reporting and incident investigation
  • Well-developed communication, negotiating and influencing skills and confidence in your knowledge of project management practices
  • Demonstrated track record in successful safe cultural change initiatives
