Job Description

City of Stonnington’s Major State Government Projects team seeks to positively influence the outcome of State Government Projects for Stonnington’s community. The team collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop advocacy positions, assess and review proposals and provide expert guidance and feedback to a range of stakeholders on such projects.

Working within the Major State Government Projects team, the successful candidate will utilize their sound civil engineering experience and knowledge, ideally gained on major infrastructure projects/in a Local Government Authority context, to lead and coordinate the engineering and asset management/handover process inputs required from Council on Major State Government projects. The candidate will utilize their technical expertise and knowledge to derive advocacy positions, assess and review designs as well as coordinate feedback to/from relevant internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, proactive, driven and innovative and engage in effective interaction and networking for the provision of engineering advice at various levels both within Council and external to Council. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of programs and projects, be able to adapt skills to address project specific needs and have sound technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, well-developed project management skills, solid time management and organisational skills.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • A highly experienced professional with specialist skills, knowledge and experience in the provision of high quality engineering services relevant to asset maintenance, project and contract management and civil engineering design (e.g. for aspects such as roads, footpaths, kerb and channel, drainage and water sensitive urban design).
  • Well-developed consultation, project, contract, communication (oral and written) and financial management skills.
  • An understanding of planning and design issues associated with major urban development proposals.
  • An understanding of local landscape and infrastructure needs for the benefit of the community and municipality.
  • Knowledge of major infrastructure projects and associated Victorian legislative frameworks.
  • Highly developed professional with interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective and efficient lines of communication at various levels in multi-stakeholder projects and programs to gain cooperation and effectively resolve problems.
  • A strong collaborator who adds value to the organisation with proven ability to maintain relationships with other stakeholders.
  • Proven time management skills, and ability to plan and prioritise work to meet competing deadlines
  • Excellent influencing and facilitating skills to achieve favourable outcomes for Council
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant industry-related project management, financial, and design and drafting software.
  • Registered engineer or currently working towards accreditation.
