Job Description

As Building Inspector - Pool Safety you will represent the Office of Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and The City of Stonnington in the inspection, reporting and certification of applicable swimming pool and spa safety barriers.

You will also:

  • Manage the administration and enforcement of the swimming pool and spa registration and certification process in line with relevant legislative requirements.
  • Promote an understanding of relevant legislative requirements to practitioners and members of the public and provide professional recommendations
  • Carry out proactive inspections of swimming pool and spa risks and dangers and non-compliance in accordance with Council work plans and policies by utilising engineering principles, precedent, and experience
  • Respond effectively and efficiently to complaints and concerns by members of the public, governance and business units by providing expert opinion and solutions to problematic regulatory matters.
  • Actively identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives and develop policy options for consideration to the benefit of the MBS Unit and the Liveability and Compliance Department and the organisation
  • Represent Council and prepare submissions for hearings at the Building Appeals Board for Council or delegate decisions that are appealed

This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $95,013 - $102,899 per annum + 11.5 % superannuation. 

You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building. As a permanent employee you also get access to our wellbeing program, employee assistance counselling program and receive 17.5% additional pay when on annual leave.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • High level knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations including associated Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, Local Laws, Government and Council Policies
  • Proven experience in exercising building control functions, including enforcement processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and positively contribute to the team
  • Capacity to work autonomously, setting priorities and delivering desired outcomes
  • Demonstrated high level skills in communication and problem solving and ability to discuss regulatory requirements clearly to achieve successful resolution.
  • Registration as a building practitioner in the category of Building Inspector (Unlimited, Limited or Pool Safety) and relevant tertiary qualification
  • Current Victoria Driver’s Licence
