Technical Officer – Plant & Fleet

A fantastic opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced Technical Officer – Plant & Fleet to join our dynamic Procurement & Plant team. This is a 2-year fixed-term contract role which will be based out of our Paget Depot.

The Technical Officer is responsible for the effective coordination of sourcing, procuring, assessment, commissioning/decommissioning and disposal of plant and fleet in an efficient and cost-effective manner taking into account whole of life costs and fit for purpose.

The position of Technical Officer is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:

  • Conduct investigative research, specification preparation, quotation / tender for the acquisition and disposal of Council’s heavy and light vehicles, heavy plant and mechanical equipment.
  • Complete the procurement of fleet assets, encompassing cost analysis, customer consultation, purchase coordination, specification writing, supplier management and review.
  • Research, analyse and recommend new type Fleet Assets which meet service requirements and provide Council with optimal outcomes.
  • Identify and coordinate service providers to facilitate completion of annual Fleet Asset replacement schedule within budget and within timeframes.
  • Complete tasks to agreed budgets, timeframes and standards with minimal guidance.
  • Provide regular Fleet Asset replacement schedule status updates.
  • Identify issues that may impact on task completion and provides appropriate solutions, support system improvement initiatives and embrace new technologies.
  • Understand project goals, action tasks and expected outcomes and identify and escalate project variances.
  • Assist to maintain a Risk Assessment Register for council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment.

Suitable applicants should possess the following:

  • TAFE certificate III in Automotive (Trade Qualifications), or equivalent extensive experience in an automotive mechanical field
  • Cert IV in Project Management or equivalent extensive experience in a related field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering)
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence
  • Well-developed level of interpersonal skills which support and promote a culture of quality customer service, identify and respond quickly and provide solutions to meet customers’ needs
  • Sound judgement in the assessment of equipment and component performance, and costs of repairs, maintenance and operating costs.
