The Position
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience.  

The Environment and Sustainability team is focused on studying emerging science and developing cutting-edge technologies to address environmental issues in the mining industry and support the industry transformation towards sustainable future. As the Postdoctoral Fellow, you will join the team to conduct research and development in the areas of fugitive emissions and mine dust. The research aims to reduce GHG emissions and sustain a clean and healthy environment, achieving important impacts on sustainable mining. 

Your duties will include:
  • Developing the catalysts for methane oxidation and SOx & NOx removal.
  • Developing the methodology and filter materials for mine dust monitoring.
  • Carrying out laboratory experiments including materials synthesis and characterisation, performance tests and setting up experimental rigs.
  • Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.

Location: Pullenvale, QLD
Salary:  AU$86k – AU$94k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
  1. A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or part time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
  2. Considerable experience in research on catalysts development for catalytic gas reactions.
  3. Highly developed skills and experience in nanomaterials synthesis and materials/chemistry characterisation
  4. High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.
  5. A sound history of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports, grant applications or patents.
  6. A record of science innovation and creativity, including the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
