The Naval Technical Bureau provides a wide range of products and services to the Navy and to the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group. The position is within the Electrical Systems Cell. The cell has members in Canberra and Sydney; the position is in Sydney reporting locally. You will be responding to demands from customers all around Australia. The cell’s function is to be source of knowledge and expertise in naval electrical systems, and provide technical services and advice as required. You will be working locally and remotely with engineers of many different disciplines. There will be occasions where you are required to work outside of the office, in construction like environments or in machinery spaces.

To be successful in the role, you must be technically minded, methodical, organised, and with good communication skills. You will be trusted to exercise your initiative, organisation, diligence, and judgement to achieve the required outcome on time, under limited direction. You will have a broad understanding of naval engineering that allows you to work with subject matter experts from other disciplines, and you will contribute specific knowledge and expertise in electrical engineering in return. You will have a sound understanding of working under regulatory systems, and apply a methodical risk management based approach to your work. Your people skills will also be important, to overcome the challenges of working in a distributed team, and with a variety of stakeholders.

You will be entering the naval engineering sector at a time of significant investment. You will contribute to both delivery and enhancement of maritime capabilities, as well as maintenance of existing ones. You will be provided support in continuing professional development, and opportunity to acquire in depth technical knowledge in the course of your work.
