The Land Engineering Agency, as part of the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, supports various Directorates and Systems Program Offices to ensure successful requirements development, acquisition and in-service support of land materiel. The Agency provides services in engineering, testing, design and development and technical data management. Services are provided across the whole of the Defence Capability Life Cycle.

As a member of the Land Engineering Agency, the Technical Specialist will have a unique opportunity to be part of an engineering and technical team to deliver Australian Defence Force systems that are at the leading edge of Defence capability.

The following knowledge and experience is required:

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to apply maintenance engineering techniques and methods to solve problems and develop solutions in the field of military equipment and systems either independently with minimum supervision or as part of a small team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the development, integration and evaluation of military equipment or systems in the field of nominated materiel systems (i.e. mechanical, electrical, electronics, communications, software and biomedical).

The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) is an integral part of the Department of Defence. This group purchases and maintains military equipment and supplies in the quantities and to the service levels that are required by Defence and approved by Government. Within CASG, the Land Domain acquires and supports designated land systems for the Australian Defence Force.

Our Ideal Candidate

The right person for this role will be a Technical Specialist who is required to apply technical expertise and knowledge, using a systems engineering approach, to ensure acquisition and sustainment projects deliver and maintain military equipment (materiel) that is fit-for-service, safe and environmentally compliant throughout the capability lifecycle.

The Technical Specialist ensures the technical integrity (including performance) of materiel systems by specifying requirements, designing testing methods, conducting verification programs, authoring risk assessments, investigating military equipment failures or deficiencies, and proposing effective materiel performance or safety enhancement solutions.

Land military equipment and systems may consist of but not limited to: vehicle and armoured vehicle systems, soldier protection, clothing (textiles), weapons, biomedical, communications, simulation, power generation as well as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear systems.
