The Role
As the EL1 SEA5000-1 Senior Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Manager (Acquisition), you will be accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex ILS management work within an integrated workforce. You would engage in problem solving and issues management, coordinate ILS outcomes to align with the strategic, political or operational objectives, and communicate expected ILS outcomes that impact on Defence. The Senior Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Manager will require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

This role exercises a considerable degree of independence and performs a leadership role within the organisation including exercising sound decision making and judgement to provide expert ILS management outcomes using in-depth knowledge. The Senior Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Manager will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholder’s expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

The role is responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and introduction into service of Navy capability requirements in relation to the Hunter Class Frigate Capability; through co-ordination of technical, commercial and ILS resources and functions. Tasks include, however are not limited to: 

  • Responsible for the management of schedule, risk and resources, preparation of briefings, reports relating to the ILS program progress and issues in accordance with organisational requirements;
  • Apply established technical, operational, professional and administrative activities, procedures, practices and ILS management methodologies;
  • Identify risks and opportunities and take account of these in, planning, decision making and priority setting;
  • Develop and evaluate strategies to achieve project, sustainment and Navy ILS outcomes; and analyse and interpret ILS performance against agreed plans;
  • Takes the initiative to resolve issues by identifying and developing ideas through analysis of alternative courses of action and their implications; and
  • Managing stakeholder engagement and expectations with internal and external stakeholders.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated ILS Management experience, preferably in a maritime acquisition (project) environment, with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. The right person will have Leadership behaviours and traits in accordance with One Defence Leadership Behaviours. Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement and liaison with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. You will be accountable to lead a team, set work priorities, communicate effectively, and manage workflow and resources whilst working in a dynamic and busy environment. Tasks include, however are not limited to: 

  • Provide leadership and management of a multi-disciplined ILS team and coordinate ILS activities including support to strategic planning, governance functions and human resource management;
  • Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people;
  • Contribute to SEA5000-1 Contract development and Contractor management;
  • Management of ILS deliverables as well as leading the coordination of Contractor feedback;
  • Build and sustain internal and external stakeholder engagement, including the ability to communicate with influence and negotiate effectively; and
  • Influence and motivate team members including actively lead group activities.
