The Role

The Tactical Data Link Bureau (TDLB) located in Maryborough St Fyshwick, Canberra is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist. Tactical Data Link’s (TDL’s) underpin the integration of the Joint Force and are vital for ADF Operations as they connect sensors and weapon systems. The TDLB supports implementation of TDL functionality through the provision of specialist Engineering Advice and Test and Evaluation services.

As a Senior TDL Tester, you will work within a mixed APS, Military and Industry team responsible for conformance and interoperability testing of ADF TDL systems. Under broad direction, the Senior TDL Tester will take a role in the identification, planning, scheduling, conduct, analysis and reporting of TDL test activities, which may involve a considerable level of stakeholder engagement to set expectations and deliver the test service.

About our Team

The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) Tactical Data Link Bureau (TDLB) was established to provide an ADF Centre of Expertise in TDLs. The primary goal of TDLB is to support CASG and Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) in ensuring that TDL platform functionality is correctly implemented so that integration and interoperability within the Joint Force and with allies and coalition partners is optimised.

The TDLB supports implementation of TDL functionality through the provision of specialist Engineering Advice and Subject Matter Expertise, support to Interoperability Assurance, Test and Evaluation, Laboratory and Infrastructure services.

TDLB Testing Services include; provision of TDL Test And Evaluation advice, conduct of Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) Assessments and Conformance To Standards (CTS) Testing.

Our Ideal Candidate
The TDLB is seeking a motivated and skilled Technical Specialist with an interest in delivering this strategically significant Independent Verification and Validation capability to the ADF. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of test management and conduct, preferably within Defence and be able to demonstrate sound leadership abilities.

Desired key attributes include:

  • Extensive knowledge of the test and evaluation methodology, systems and procedures;
  • Experience in managing teams within a complex environment;
  • Sound communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders;
  • A good understanding of System Engineering disciplines;
  • Strong Analytical and Writing Skills; and
  • High level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve results and business objectives.
