The Role
The Radio Frequency (RF) specialist will work in a collaborative team that aims to identify future requirements for, and conduct research in, RF electronic warfare (EW) technologies.

General duties include:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders in order to identify key requirements.
  • Communicate research motivations and outcomes in both written and verbal format.
  • Collaborate with academic and industry partners to leverage internal research.

RF measurement duties include:

  • Design, development and demonstration of innovative RF technologies measurement systems.
  • Evaluating, planning, commissioning, and managing RF test equipment.
  • Maintaining an awareness of state-of-the-art RF technology measurement techniques.
  • Planning and execution of complex microwave measurements of antennas/arrays, power amplifiers, integrated circuits and their systems.
  • Development of automated test systems that require programming and interfacing RF test equipment such as arbitrary waveform generators, digitisers, vector network and spectrum analyzers with devices and systems under test.
  • Participation in field trials.


About our Team
Cyber and Electronic Warfare Division undertakes research and development focused on identifying, analysing and countering threats to Australia's defence and national security through electronic means.

The Electronic Warfare Operations Major Science and Technology Capability (MSTC) conceives, develops and validates EW technologies and techniques to enhance the survivability and mission assurance of the ADF.

The RF Sensing and Shaping Science and Technology Capability undertakes analysis and development of subsystems and systems for next generation RF EW sensors and effectors that shape the electromagnetic environment. We provide advice and subsystems to a joint project with a US partner.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, curiosity, scientific integrity and engineering pragmatism. Your skillset will include the use of modern Electronic Design and Automation tools such as Keysight SystemVue, Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS), Cadence AWR Visual System Simulator (VSS), Cadence AWR Microwave Office, or Matlab.

You will be expected to make substantial contributions to the research program with limited guidance in the planning, design, measurement and demonstration of innovative RF technologies and their systems.

Significant experience in at least one of the RF measurement duties described in The Role will be required along with an aptitude to learn on-the-job for remaining duties.
