NT WorkSafe has issued vital warnings for workers in intense heat.

Heatwave conditions are forecast to continue in the NT, so businesses and workers are reminded to take precautions to guard against heat related illnesses.

Heat related illnesses range from heat rashes, heat cramps and dehydration to heat exhaustion and heat stroke which can be fatal.

Symptoms of heat related illnesses can include:

  • excessive sweating
  • muscle cramps
  • feeling dizzy
  • nausea and vomiting

Some safety tips to help guard against heat related illness include:

  • drink water regularly
  • use shade protection, a hat and sun screen
  • check your personal protective equipment is appropriate for the type of work being done and the amount of sun you are exposed to
  • schedule work to avoid the hottest part of the day
  • share the workload
