The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) will investigate an incident that saw two men injured at the Roy Hill Port construction project yesterday.

There are very few details about what happened on the Dutch ship Happy Buccaneer.

Authorities say one man is in a serious condition with a crushed foot, and another has a broken leg.

The ship was moored at Stanley Port at the Roy Hill South West Wharf.

The Maritime Union of Australia says the ship was crewed by foreign workers.

The Pilbara Port Authority said port operations have not been affected by the accident.

“Roy Hill is a major operator in Port Hedland and has a highly capable emergency response and medical team based in Port Hedland,” a spokesperson said.

“We received a request for assistance and our team immediately responded to the incident, providing medical treatment to the injured people before they were transported to Port Hedland hospital for treatment.

“Our thoughts are with the injured people, their families and work colleagues.”

A commenter on industry news site Australian Mining claims that a spreader bar fell on the two workers.

The reader said one man has a severely broken leg, while the other’s foot has been crushed so badly it may require amputation.
