A new study links workplace exposure to gases, dusts, fumes, solvents to waning lung capacity.

Researchers have completed a pooled data analysis of studies that included workplace exposure to a wide range of airborne emissions and particles, and waning lung capacity that had been tracked for at least a year.

Analysis of the study results showed that any level of exposure to vapours, gases, dusts, fumes and aromatic solvents was strongly associated with waning expiratory volume, while cumulative workplace exposure for these three categories of agents indicated a similar trend.

The researchers say regular check-ups are needed for workers in any related environments to stave off serious respiratory ill health.
