The Northern Territory Government has announced the appointment of decorated Royal Australian Navy veteran Tony O’Malley as the new Darwin Harbourmaster.

Captain O’Malley, who recently retired from the RAN following a distinguished 32-year career, will take up the role for a period of three years.

“I am excited to be appointed to the role of Harbourmaster and am looking forward to working with Port of Darwin stakeholders, particularly in the exciting times ahead for development in Darwin Harbour,” Captain O’Malley said.

The new Harbourmaster will be supported in his role by Assistant Harbourmaster Andrew Hayes.

Captain O’Malley replaces former Harbourmaster Captain Ian Niblock who has taken up a role heading the Darwin Port Corporation’s maritime services delivery area, as General Manager Marine Services.
