A mining company in Western Australia is reporting a significant new find of high-grade nickel laying north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Poseidon Nickel, which is currently operating the mine says the new reserves will add an extra 19 per cent to estimates of the site at Mt Windarra, after drilling programs reported hefty new nickel reserves last month.

Luckily for the company, the newly-uncovered nickel mineralisation is close to existing mining infrastructure.

Poseidon has spent nearly $100 million refurbishing the site since it announced plans to reopen the historic deposit, which triggered WA's nickel boom in the 1970s.
