The Queensland Government has announced over 120 Queensland women are now taking their first steps to becoming qualified workers in a high priority, traditionally male dominated industries.

Premier Campbell Newman congratulated the 126 first-round Supporting Women Scholarships recipients.

“This scholarship program is shaping education and training pathways for women to help alleviate skill shortages in some of the state’s core growth industries, including building services, agriculture, engineering and information technology,” Mr Newman said.

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek said the Newman Government had delivered more than $2 million worth of scholarships in the first round.

“Most of the scholarship recipients are getting a start to their careers after recently graduating from school,” Mr Langbroek said.
