The Queensland Government has moved to reassure prospective TAFE students that it’s ‘business as usual’ for the state’s vocational education and training provider.

State Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek said media reports about the independent Queensland Skills and Training Taskforce final report claiming wholesale closures of TAFE campuses were untrue.

“Reports claiming wholesale closure of TAFE campuses are pre-emptive as the government has yet to respond to the report,” Mr Langbroek said.

“We are working to improve the State’s training system and are firmly committed to balancing the needs of local communities with the Report’s recommendations.”

Mr Langbroek said prospective students considering their study options for next year should not be deterred by negative media reports.

“TAFE Queensland has offered quality training for 130 years and will continue to do so by responding to community needs,” he said.

Mr Langbroek said the Taskforce received 91 submissions and drew on a broad range of industry professionals to help form its recommendations.
