Five Australian universities, together with the CSIRO, have co-published the new Vision 2040: Innovation in Mining and Minerals paper, looking at the future of mining in Australia with a particular concentration on sustainability in the industry.

Run by the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology, Sydney, Vision 2040 aims at ‘engaging industry and community on identifying a sustainable path for the mining industry in Australia’

"Tax cuts and basic infrastructure are one thing, but we need to further strengthen innovation in areas like clean energy infrastructure and technology for a low carbon economy, while exploring the role a sovereign wealth fund could play in creating prosperity for future generations." Said ISF Research Director Dr. Damien Giurco

The Minerals Futures Collaboration Cluster is funded by CSIRO's Mineral Down Under Flagship.

Research partners include the University of Queensland, Curtin University of Technology, Central Queensland University, the Australian National University and UTS.

To gather a broad range of views, the ISF is running a consultation on Vision 2040. The draft Vision is now available here
