Principal Power Systems Engineer

About the firm and the role;

The planning and system studies group continues to grow in North America with an increasing client list and expanding the pipeline of work.  This is an opportunity to help consolidate this consultancies business success in North America and support further growth as they continue to build on their reputation for high-quality service delivery to their clients.  

I'm keen to speak with principal transmission studies/planning engineers with 20+ years of relevant industry experience to lead the system studies team. This position is based in Westborough, MA, USA. 

The role is 80% technical consulting and 20% team leadership.  Your principal expertise must be in classical power system analysis and transmission studies that model the behaviour of electricity transmission networks and their various components under steady state and perturbed conditions.

Your responsibilities;

As a System Studies Engineer, you will be the technical lead for the team of engineers in the Westborough office. In this role, you will perform systems studies across a range challenging projects; you will use your expertise on large power systems to provide expert advice to a range of power utilities.

This will see you develop methodologies, resource plans and time estimates. You, of course, will be reviewing and signing off on studies by other engineers - as well as preparing your own reports. Other responsibilities include building your teams capability through mentoring and coaching as well as recruitment.
What we need from you;
  • Recent experience leading and performing complex studies using models of large complex transmission networks - statewide or country wide depending on where you are located.
  • Experience leading small teams and interacting with stakeholders
  • Experience in developing dynamic user models for generator controls, HVDC stations, lines and controls as well as network monitoring and protection schemes
  • Highly proficient, advanced user of Siemens-PTI's PSS/E network simulation software with at least 10 years of experience
  • Strong Python scripting skills, plus skills in commonly used network simulation software (Eg. PSLF, ASPEN, DSATools, Powerworld, EMTDC/PSCAD, EMTP RV, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems specialisation is preferred
  • Registered Engineer status is preferred
