Two innovative Australian methods of carbon accounting in the architecture and engineering sectors have been established to be leaders in the global field according to recent research of international conducted by Curtin and Murdoch Universities.

Led by sustainability expert Peter Newman, the researchers found that the Australian tools offer exciting new capabilities to measure infrastructure, development and remote community housing that their international competitors lacked.

The study set out to outline a rigorously scientific method of measuring the carbon footprint of  the architecture industry found that that the Australian tools were the most well equipped options to help designers and planners better understand the carbon impacts of urban development.

The use of these carbon accounting tools, such as the Australian eTool, is considered key to furthering the sustainable development goals of the urban environment.
