What you’ll contribute to:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a General Manager – Health, Safety & Environment to deliver excellence at a strategic and operational level with the QAL team.  This is a permanent full-time position that would suit a senior leader with a depth of experience in the health, safety and environmental space.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this leadership role has responsibility for the development, implementation and monitoring of the QAL Group Health, Safety and Environment Strategic Plan. 

Brendan joined Queensland Airport Pty Ltd (QAL) and is the General Manager for QAL’s regional ports, Townsville Mount Isa, and Longreach. Brendan shares his unique experience working with QAL below:

Our teams are responsible for airside operations, passenger facilitation, commercial agreements, security, and emergency response along with assets and facility management. The purpose of our team is to provide a comfortable, safe, and reliable facility for air transport operations across regional Queensland. We deliver this in partnership with our business partners each and every day.  

QAL provides me with a sense of pride and achievement, I love what I do especially when we make a difference and support the community. My career started in at QAL as a specialist manager before moving into a senior management position and I love the people and the way we all work together to achieve a common outcome.”

Consistently calm under pressure whilst maintaining focus, success will require exceptional collaboration as you partner with the business to develop, implement and successfully embed HSE initiatives and programs of work.

In this dynamic, challenging and complex environment your proven experience in multi-location and multi-dimensional businesses (corporate and operational) will complement your ability to work on complex problems and use senior level influencing and execution skills to deliver QAL’s strategic HSE objectives directly, with and through others.

Additionally, the role requires extensive experience in Health and Safety with a further deep dive in Environment an advantage. 

Excellent communication skills, presentation skills and strong stakeholder management are also a must.

Key deliverables / responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic direction & leadership to guide, protect and enhance the organisation in all things Health, Safety and Environment
  • Provide subject matter expertise on legislation and codes of practice pertaining to health, safety and environment
  • Lead the Group’s safety and environment regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements
  • Lead the QAL ISO alignment journey
  • Provide guidance and assurance around safe systems of work in place for all work completed by QAL employees (and its subsidiaries)
